Here’s the Personal Story…

The eldest in a big Catholic family, I grew up in Upstate New York among the woods and waters of the Finger Lakes area. Dad was a farmer and Mom was a city girl. Together they raised six children and we all eventually moved to Colorado. Writing became a “thing” when I published my first newsletter on a blue mimeograph machine when the nuns weren’t watching. After high school, I joined the United States Air Force to serve my country and get a college degree. I’ve worked at RIT in Rochester NY, a career outplacement firm in Denver and a call center in Colorado Springs. I’ve had jobs selling vinyl checkbook covers, cleaning stalls on a 400-head horse farm and blogging for the Mayor of Colorado Springs. With only $700 in the bank and three young’uns to feed, I quit the corporate world and launched my business in 1997. I traveled the world facilitating, coaching, speaking and consulting then later moved to a 1924 log cabin in Black Forest, Colorado. In 2013 a wildfire burned my home to the ground. My husband and I married in 2017 and we still live in Black Forest, near Colorado Springs.

I started writing newsletters in 2006 and my articles have been published in trade journals, newspapers and online magazines. After losing it all in a wildfire, I recently published Wildfire Survivors: A How-to Guide on the Road to Recovery. In Fall 2025, I will release The CARLA Concept: How to Raise an Issue and Prove Your Point in 5 Simple Steps and Cabin Mama Stories.
