Thanks Dave, and thank you for your service also! I’m older than you by a bit. I enlisted in 1974 and served 7 years active duty. Looking back, I wish I had done 20, but everything works out in the end!
Thank you Wayne! And actually (funny story) I had originally planned to go in the Army, because the guy I was dating had planned to do so. But the Air Force recruiter got wind of it and made an appointment to visit with me and my folks. He talked me/us into the Air Force and the rest was history!
Oh yes, the part about cutting weight, sounds like wrestling practice in High School. I had a fused rib on my left side that was "missed". Raise your right hand... I, state your name, do hereby swear... I still hold my oath as sacred.
Poaching recruits, a time-honored tradition, I was going into the Air Force. Got a better deal from the Army! Ha! I ended up a grunt. I wanted to be a helicopter mech.
Yes, I have heard stories from so many saying they had intended to enlist in X and were spirited away to Y. I had also looked at the Navy. Ended up marrying a Navy man. It all worked out! :-)
Great story.
Thank you Ron!
Great story! When were you in? I went to Air Force MEPS (Milwaukee) and left to Basic in Feb ‘86.

Great story and a wonderful lesson! :-)
Thank you Alice!
Great story. I will resist the urge to tease you about not picking the Army. Thank you for having the guts to take the oath. Go get em' zoomie!

Yes, it was a solemn oath for sure. Glad to hear the enlistment numbers have jumped recently.

Great story! It makes me want to lose 15 lbs right now!
Thanks Janet. Yup, you and me both. 15 lbs. would be about the right amount!
